The Ballad of Our Looneys
Part of a "Teaching Children Social Studies using the Internet" project
Travel, our Looneys, and visit afar,
Through the U.S. regions by plane and by car.
From that week in November when Petey met us
With photos, adventures, emailing - - - such fuss.
To the present flashback of how it began
As we started our project - - our traveling plan.
We said to ourselves, "Send a friend out this year.
Pick a beaver, a lobster, a whale, or a bear.
Name him Looney or Larry or Lester or Lee,
Even Lisa, all names upon which we agree.
Go see places, meet people, send reports to all
In our yearlong projects who answered our call."
So now for those visits and friends we did make
As our Looneys set out on their travels to take.
California, Alaska, Vermont, Tennessee,
Honolulu, Mankato, and Mississippi.
Just a few of the places our cyberfriends live
To our Looneys much cuddles and caring they give.
What did they see, hear, smell, taste, and enjoy?
Shucking oysters, visiting shrimp boats, tending alpacas, oh joy.
Doing Mardi Gras, learning the hula, visiting forts and town sights.
Seeing rice bagged, sugar cane canned, and surviving dog bites.
They reported these adventures to us through email
So that we and participants shared in each tale.
"Looney Lobsters on the Loose" was the first that we tried,
Then "Looneys Love Regional Literature" our second - - with pride.
"Where in the USA is Looney Lobster" 1998-99 year.
Is built on previous projects making classroom connections more clear.
For some virtual travel stop by our webpage.
Come enjoy our Looney Lobsters. They are really the rage!
As of December 4, 2003, you are visitor
