Colonial Character Oral Presentation
(in colonial costume which you provide)
As your colonial character, plan a conversation of a maximum of two
minutes that will be videotaped. In your conversation, reveal your
feelings or experiences about a specific daily event or series of events
(possibilities: life in Boston, the geography of Boston, at the trashing
of Governor Hutchinson's house, the "incident on King Street,"
your need to seek refuge in Braintree at the Adams farm, your presence at
a Stamp Act riot, your presence at a Sons of Liberty gathering, etc.)
and how your character was involved in it.
Plan what you will say by writing it on paper, but later practice your
conversation at home so that you need no paper. In the first person, as
your character, you are to describe who you are and how long your family
has been living in Boston. You should then begin to clearly describe
events or instances that have been happening in Boston and how your
character and your character's family has experienced those events. You
should begin to express your character's political opinion about
continuing to support the policies of England or inference to the
possibility of finding a different way of governing oneself in the
colonies.
Use the rubric to assess your performance.
