Physics - Dewey 530
Compliments of Inquiry Unlimited
Physics - Dewey 530
- What is physics?
- Where does one find information about physics?
- What subtopics are involved in physics?
- MOTION [Overlaps with sound, heat, light) (pushes, pulls, twirls)(gravity)[friction]
- Forces - A push, pull, or twist that acts on an object making it move, go fast, slow down, change direction, or change shape. (Natural forces include gravity, magnetism, air pressure, electricity, centrifugal force)
- Forces that push
- Forces that pull
- Forces that twist
- Using forces to slow down objects through:
- FRICTION - the slowing down of matter by rubbing or by contact
- DRAG (air resistance) - the pulling in opposite directions of matter
- LIGHT (Energy that we see when it is bounced off (reflected) another object
- HEAT (Energy that moves from a hot to a cool area)
- SOUND (The movement of matter back and forth OR the vibration of air)
- ELECTRICITY (The movement of charges in a circuit or path)[Electricity can produce magnetism]
- MAGNETISM - The attraction of opposite ends of poles of magnets. Magnets can create electriciy.
- AIR (takes up space and has weight; expands when heated and contracts when cooled) and WATER (A clear, colorless, tasteless liquid) - pushes objects up to float
