My name is Bernadete Howsly. I am a freed black slave now living in
Scituate. I am 35 years old and I am a weaver. When I was a slave I was living
in Boston.
My husband's name is David. He is 30 years old. He is a coppersmith. David is also a freed black slave. When he was a slave, he lived in South Carolina.
David and I met in Boston and married there. We have four kids. Elizabeth is 2 months old. Michelle is 6 years old. Michael is 8 years old. Martin is ten years old.
David is my neighbor's son. Her name is Sarah Waikfield. He is an apprentice to my husband.
I live on Crosby Street. My house is very small.
I have two brothers named Derick and Shawn who were also born in Boston. Derick is 40 years old. Shawn is 35 years old. My mother and my father are dead. My father is dead because he got shot. My mother had a heart attack. My daughter Elizabeth is dying from smallpox.

My parents live in Dedham. I have a 19 year old sister. She is a baker. She works with my best friend, Sharon Brown. Sharon has been my best friend since I was 3 years old.

We have a boy and girl twin, and also a single girl. Their names are Shawn, Sherese, and Shakeila. Their ages are 17, and 5 years old.
I met my husband one Saturday night. I am now 37 years old and my husband is 39 years old. We were 21 years old and 24 years old when we met.
My 17 year old twin boy is in school studying law. My 5 year old goes to a Dame School.
My father is dead and my mom is a housewife in Dedham. I am an only child.
I got my job when I was shopping for food. A lady ask me if I had a job. I said I did not. I got the job. We are a very happy family.

I have three children. The oldest one is 10 years old. He is going to be an apprentice for a goldsmith and jeweler. His name is Jamal.
My child after him is eight years old. His name is James.
My third child is seven years old. His name is Junior.

My name is Elizabeth Withly. I am a freed African slave. My job is a hat maker. I married a man named James Withly. He is a blacksmith. He makes a lot of things around the house.
We have two girls named Racheal who is 8 years old and Sammantha who is two months old.
We have a boy named Anthony who is 10 years old.
My parents also live with us. My mother is a weaver and my father is a cat-whipper.
We live in Roxbury on Common Road. My friend Tiffany Jones's son, Shawn is apprenticed to my husband, James.

Sarah Waikfield
My name is Sarah Waikfield. I am 32 years old. I work as a midwife. My husband's name is Joseph Waikfield. He is 33 years old. He is a merchant and owns twin ships named "The Tiffany" and "The Crystal." All of our family has been Quakers for generations.
My oldest child's name is Deborah Waikfield. She is 11 years old and goes to Writing School. David is 10 years old. He is an apprentice to David Howsly who is a coppersmith.
Laurie is 5 years old. All she does around the house is whine! My youngest kid's name is Mark. He is 3 months old.
Then comes Sophie. She was a slave but got free and we adopted her. We adopted her
when she was four years old. Now she is 8 years old.
We also have a big brown dog named Merly.
My mom and dad live with us. My dad's name is John Corly. He is 73 years old.
He always tells the kids, "When I was your age," stories.
My mom's name is Brenda Corly. She is 69 years old. She sews clothes for the kids.
Joseph's parents both died. Their names were Jacob and Sally Waikfield. When Joseph was 13 years old, his mother got accused of witchcraft. She got accused because she always wore black. To kill her, they hung her. They locked up the family so they couldn't see her.
What happened to Joseph's father is a totally different story. Joseph's father, Jacob, was out on a walk. A little kid bumped into him and Jacob fell down. When he got up, he felt fine but when he got home, he fell down and died. No one knows what happened.
All of our family have been Quakers for generations.
I live in Scituate on Crosby Road the fourth house down. Before I came to Scituate, I lived in England. That's where I met Joseph. I met him when I was walking back from the store. I dropped my bag and when I bent down to get it, he bumped into me. He courted me for nine months and then we married. After we had Deborah, we left England for the Massachusetts Bay Colony. We first lived in Boston where he got his job. We moved to Scituate because it was quieter.
Sophie's mother and father were born slaves. So were their mothers and fathers. She was the only kid in her family to get free. The rest of them either got whipped to death or they killed themselves.
My grandparents lived in France. They were coming to the Massachusetts Bay Colony with me, but they got seasick. They were going to throw up over the edge, but someone pushed them overboard and they drowned.

I am not married. My mother and sister live with me. My mother's name is Abigail. My sister's name is Deborah. I have an apprentice. His name is David Smyth. Most of my family lives in Boston and Scituate.
I have nine brothers and sisters. I mentioned one. My father left when I was an apprentice. I live on Fish Street in Boston near Clarks Wharf.
I sell my guns all over the Massachusetts Bay Colony. I sold some of my guns to the militia men known as the Minutemen.
I used to live in Boston, England.

My name is Debbie Redwitch. I am 29 years old. I am a midwife. I also own a store. In my store, I sell pots, pans, cups, tables, and many more things you can make out of white metal. I sell Indian beads that are very nice.
I am married to James Winnowing. He is a whitesmith. He has a young man named Kevin Huggies to help him. Kevin is 19 years old. He said that one day he will marry my daughter, Stephanie. She is now 18 years old. She is my only daughter. I am teaching her how to be a midwife.
My other children are named Eric and Erica who are 11 year-old twins. I adopted a child. His name is Shawn. He is 10 years old.
The family members that live with me are my mother-in-law and my sister-in-law.
We live in a big house. My husband and I work very hard. We live in the Massachusetts Bay Colony. We live on Emory Street.

My name is Keith Martin. I am 27 years old. I'm a merchant. I have a wife. Her name is Tyra Martin. We have 4 kids. Their names are Scottie, Jordan, Dennis, and Tyra (after her mom).
We live in the biggest mansion in Charlestown. It has many floors and many rooms. We have four servants. We have our shop attached to our house because if someone will try to take our stuff, I will have my gun in the bed with me and I will be able to hear them.
I sell gold, copper, iron, silver, and other metal products. When I am not selling, I like to bake cakes, cupcakes, pies, loaves of bread, rolls, biscuits, and cookies.
The Sons of Liberty almost trashed my house until I caught them heading for my door.
My stepmother, Sally Martin, and my father Joe Martin live with us. Tyra's parents live with us too. Tyra and I were born in Africa.

When I was younger, I lived in Marblehead and I became apprenticed to a goldsmith in Marblehead. At the end of my indenturing, I moved to Boston to be on my own and start my own business. Shortly, I met Sara. A few months later, we got married. We have been married for twenty years.

I am very, very rich. I own six ships in Massachusetts Bay Colony.

My name is Tiffany Jones. My husband's name is Darrell Jones. He is a lawyer. I am a midwife. We have four children. Their names are Rebecca, Nia, Olivia, and Shawn. Rebecca and Nia are 12 year-old twins. Olivia and Shawn are ten year old twins. We are both thirty-six years old. Shawn is an apprentice to James Withy. James is a blacksmith. The Withy family lives in Roxbury and so does the Jones family. My mother and father live in Natick.
I have one sister named Layana Smith who lives in Roxbury also. She is married to David Smith. She has two kids named John and Ashley. They are 4 year old twins.
Layana is a housewife. Her husband is now a free black man. He is from Africa.
David Smith tells that he got caught when he was practicing his religion. Five white men took away ten black, strong men. They cuffed all of them and then they whipped all of them.
When they did that, David and his friends did not yell out. They took it as if they were not afraid. They were brought to Boston where they were sold and lived. When they got to Boston they were given a new name. They practiced a new religion. They had to learn a new language. When David was coming to Boston, he rode in a canoe and then on a big ship. They gave him no food at times and a little food at other times. He was always given water. He had to sit in the sun, and he could not talk. When he got to Boston, he could not talk to anybody because they did not know his language. He only could do his work, and he could never ever see his family again.

My wife's name is Lucy. She is 35 years old. She was born in Somerville. We have been married for fifteen years. My mother's name is Sara Ausborn.
My father's name is Akuma Ausborn. I was an apprentice to him when I was 15 years old.
We have five kids. Their names are John, Salem, Frank, Brandon, and Lucy. Lucy was named after my wife. Salem is 7 years old. John is 5 years old. Frank and Brandon are 9 year-old twins. Lucy is 6 years old.
John has smallpox. We do not want to leave him by himself with others that have smallpox. We have not had smallpox ourselves, but we have decided to quarantine ourselves in our house with him.
Sometimes I take the kids to the dock to see me off when I go sailing.

We live on King Street in Boston. We are Christians. We both wake up at 4:00 A.M. Kenny is off to Prince Street to solve a case. As a midwife, I am off to Sea Street to deliver babies. David, our servant, watches the kids.
We have 3 kids altogether. My kids' names are Dyshawnna, who is 4 years old; Desarey who is 2 years old; and April who is a newborn. Dyshawnna's birthday is in January. Dearey's birthday is in the month of March. April's birthday is in the month of May. April is 4 days old.
My mother had me at the age of 20 years old. Now she is 45 years old. My mother's name is Cheryl M. May. My father died when I was 12 years old from a sickness. He died of it because there was no cure.
I have a servant named David. He gets a good day's pay. I met him through a friend of mine. He may leave any time he wants. My kids love him being here. They have him as a friend. It would help me very much if he did not leave because of my kids but it's up to him. Kenny works on Prince Street.
