Literacy Modeling poetry

Based on Free To Be . . . You and Me
Music by Stephen Lawrence and Lyrics by Bruce Hart

    Take the time,
    Come with me
    For a day of memory
To a place that is mine
Where they let me "do" and shine.

Watch me learn, share with me
    For a day of memory
Share with me, watch me learn
    And we'll thrive

    In a school
    Where the caring is key
    In a school
    Named the Joseph Lee
    In a school
In the city near the "T"
    In a school
    Where the people agree

    That you are you
    And I am me
    That's good to be

I've put a week of my days
    Close, compact in many ways
So you'll see what we do
All of us, and you too.

Watch me learn . . be a part
Join our class from the start
    Be a part . . . watch us learn
    It's an art.

    In a school
    Named the Joseph Lee
    In a school
    Where ideas run free
    In a school
    Where you share with me

    That you are you
    And I am me
    That's good to be.

As we go at our pace
We can grow in this place
    To succeed is our aim
Work is fun - - like a game.

Watch me learn . . share with me
    For a day of memory
Share with me . . . watch me learn
    And you'll see . . . .

    There's a school
    Looking out for me
    There's a school
    Where we feel family
    There's a school
    Where they're listening to me.

    I learn from you
    You learn from me
I can teach you, You can teach me
I share with you, You'll share with me
    At the Joseph Lee.

In this school - - the Joseph Lee
We learn of art and history
We let our minds travel free
Our passport: Books . . the library

Watch me learn, share with me
    For a day of memory
Share with me - - - watch me learn
    And we'll thrive

In this school, which instructs me now
The way to swim so I'll know how
    In case one day . . . alone . . just me . .
    I'll reach safety.

There's a small part of me
    Aware of science, technology
A spirit nourished to sprout free
    Through computer literacy.

Watch me learn, share with me
    For a day of memory
Share with me . . . watch me learn
    And we'll thrive.

    In a school
    In a large city
    In a school
    With variety
    In a school
    That we all agree

    Makes me feel good
    That I know you
    And you know me.
