May 27, 1901, Boston Globe*

The closing exercises of the Hebrew Industrial School, 17 Allen Street were held yesterday afternoon at Minot Hall

The institution, which was organized 10 years ago by Mrs. Jacob H. Hecht, has at present over 600 pupils.

Yesterday there were fully 200 of the girls and 100 of the boys of the institution present, and beside them there were representatives of all the well-known charitable organizations of the city. The exhibition of the work was mostly of the dressmaking and millinery classes, while the entertainment was given by the children of all classes. There was sewing of all descriptions, and the exhibitors were girls, from 6 years up. The exhibit was one of the largest shown by the school up to date, and filled many tables.

About 50 boys of the Jacob H. Hecht Club, one of the branches of the institution, were present and many bright essays were read by them and by the little girls. The children were in charge of the superintendent of the school, Miss Goldie Bamber. Among those who spoke to the children were Mrs. Jacob H. Hecht, Jacob H. Hecht, Solomon Schindler, superintendent of the Leopold Morse Home, Mattapan; Max Mitchell, superintendent of the Federation of Jewish Charities of this city; Mrs. H. Van Noorden, president of the Boston section, Council of Jewish Women; Israel Cohen, president of the United Hebrew Benevolent Association, and others.
